Training expedition Český les
Although most of our readers have already heard, read or got to know about the goal of the group No Limits – Himalaya 2016 in one way or another, I will shortly introduce it.
A group of students, most of which spend at
least part of their time at the Masaryk Grammar School, decided to make a
journey into the Himalayas for 3 weeks. To make the challenge even crazier,
they decided to take a wheelchair user with them on their expedition.
Naturally, the man behind all this is a teacher from the aforementioned school,
Mr. Kolář. It was with him that we underwent a mock expedition over 25th-27th
April in the area of the Upper Palatine Forest (Český les) so that we could, in
the very least, survive our stay in the world's highest mountains.
So what did we realize in the middle of the
taiga in rainy spring weather during these three days? We uncovered plenty of
basic mistakes and many details on our part, all of which have to be improved and resolved by
August. At the same time, though, we proved to ourselves that we're not that
hopeless after all and that our love for nature and our ability to resonate with it could even be
compared to the Hippie motion. Everyone and everything can, and even must,
improve over time.
Our biggest problem, surprisingly, turned
out to be cooking and saving petrol when warming up meals and drinks whilst
feeling the longing gazes of five other starving onlookers. Still, during the
last day of the expedition no problems arose and everything went well. We also
dusted of our rusty skills regarding tent building and navigation. On the
second day we also practised pulling a wheelchair user (J. Krauskopf – he's the
one who danced with Marie Doležalová in the last season of the Czech Star Dance
Show, devoted to the Paraple organization, which helps the disabled) on a rope
through rugged terrain and over barriers, additionally learning how to take
care of him despite him being very self-sufficient.
Apart from that we filmed spotlights,
videos, reportages and other materials throughout Saturday, mainly with the
professional camerawoman Andrea Fleissigová. You can see the results on our
page, the link to which is under this article. Even the Czech Television
arrived to film a reportage with us. We can therefore assume that we're being
watched by people throughout our whole country and our expedition has become a
country-wide topic, and that one of the few positive ones. So stay tuned for more,
just follow our page No Limits – Himalaya 2016, where we regularly post new
information and share interesting details about our great challenge.
